The combination of our trademarked NMX1000® Avocado/Soybean Unsaponifiables (ASU), FCHG49® Glucosamine Hydrochloride and TRH122® Chondroitin Sulfate has been shown in cell culture studies to be more effective in reducing the breakdown of cartilage than glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate alone.
ASU stands for avocado/soybean unsaponifiables, derived from avocados and soybeans. Studies using cartilage cells have shown that it lowers the expression of several components involved in the process of cartilage breakdown in joints. ASU complements the positive effects of the glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate in Cosequin® ASU, providing broad spectrum joint support for the equine athlete.
The combination of the trademarked FCHG49® Glucosamine Hydrochloride and TRH122® Chondroitin Sulfate help support the cartilage matrix and help inhibit enzymes that break down cartilage in cell culture studies. These two ingredients together have been shown to support joint cartilage better than either ingredient alone.
ASU acts synergistically with both glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate for additional joint support. Further, the combination of glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate plus ASU has been shown in cartilage cell studies to work better than the combination of glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate alone at inhibiting the expression of several agents involved in cartilage break down (More information).
Figure: The combination of NMX1000® Avocado/Soybean Unsaponifiables, FCHG49® Glucosamine, and TRH122® Chondroitin Sulfate (ASU+Glu+CS) reduced the level of cyclooxygenase-2, which is involved in cartilage breakdown, to a level comparable to that of the non-activated control (CNA) (normal joint cells) and was superior to the combination of glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate alone (Glu+CS). C = control cells activated by lipopolysaccharide (LPS); LPS stimulated the cells to release cyclooxygenase-2 and other compounds that lead to cartilage breakdown.
